Books and I have had a relationship like the one a tree has with its twigs and leaves – we are inseparable. However, it was not always the case. In fact, almost a decade ago, I was not much into reading. The very mention of books would drive me crazy.

How crazy, you ask? Back in my childhood, my father brought me this book that had 250-odd pages, and asked me to read it in a week. Well, I simply tore the book and tossed it into the trash can. As disrespectful as it may sound, I actually cared about nothing but sports at the time. Even today, the mere thought of that incident paints a silly smile on my face.

My father actually had to put up with my insolent behavior on more than one occasion. However, as they say, no one is mightier than time. Well, that certainly was the case with me. You see, I went through a lot of ups and downs over the years. And these trials and tribulations served to take me closer to books.

The story of Suhani Agarwal

The first book I read was the Ramayana. I really got to learn a lot from the book, and not just about ethics and morality, but also about how reading could transform our thoughts.

There was no looking back from that point. I started reading a couple of books or so every month. Not only did reading make my routine a lot more bearable, but it also gave me the much-needed self-belief to share my newfound knowledge with the people around me. As everything went digital, so did my reading habits. I started opting for inexpensive e-books, which resulted in me reading even more.

To conclude, I would like to say that a few thought-provoking, inspirational words can change a person’s thoughts. It is for this reason that everyone should give books a chance.
