Have you ever wondered how could people love something as boring as books? I sure did, for I used to be an avowed non-reader. However, I have come a long way since then, completely falling for the charm of books. I am Maharshi Soni and this is the story of my journey as a reader.
Personally, I am someone who is always looking for ways to grow and become a better version of himself. And for any such person, books are like oxygen – in my very humble opinion, self-growth just isn’t possible if one doesn’t read. But, like I said, I wasn’t always a reader. I became one thanks to my teacher.
One day, our teacher assigned us the task of reading a book. It was A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s autobiography, Wings of Fire. Reluctantly, I began reading it. I must say that it felt really boring at first. However, I kept at it. And before I knew it, I was enjoying every word of it. I ended up reading the remainder of the book in just two days!
Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People was another book that helped me a great deal in managing my professional and personal life better. In fact, it was this book that rounded off my transformation into a hardcore reader.
One of the major benefits of reading is that only a bunch of papers can give you an insight into the thoughts of their author. There are few things as good as being able to learn from someone else’s experiences.
I would like to sum up with a quote by Frederick Douglass:
Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.
