What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.
Eleanor Powell
We have absolutely no control upon how and when we are sent to this world. Likewise, we can do nothing about when we are to die. To a certain extent, the talents we possess are purely hereditary. The interpretation of the bases on which we inherit these qualities varies from one culture to another.
It cannot be stressed enough that we are what we were meant to be. We cannot force ourselves to become something we are not. It is, therefore, critical for us to accept the way we are and be at peace with our true selves.
However, the fact that we cannot change our intrinsic nature should not deter us from constantly striving to become better versions of ourselves. While the talent one is born with is a matter of luck, how we translate that aptitude into skill and success entirely depends on us. There can be nothing more unfortunate than going to one’s grave without having fulfilled their potential. Remember, while the opportunity to be born as a human is God’s gift to us, what we make of that life is our gift to the Almighty.
Life keeps throwing fresh challenges at us. We continue to meet new people along the way. Several opportunities come and go. All this while, we need to accept these changes as the only constant in life so we are prepared for every situation. The problems we face in life actually harness our strengths and encourage us to improve going forward.
Eleanor Torrey Powell, commonly known as Eleanor Powell, was an American actress. Best remembered for her tap dance numbers in musical films in the 1930s and 1940s, Powell was also an ardent believer in God and His plans. She once remarked: “What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.”
