If you get up one more time than you fall, you will make it through. – Chinese proverb

If you get up one more time than you fall, you will make it through.

Chinese proverb

Success is all about determination and a never-say-die attitude. The history of mankind can attest to the fact that no one ever made it big in life without running into any roadblocks. In fact, perseverance is the hallmark of every successful man.

Setbacks are part and parcel of every ambitious endeavor, so much so that if you are yet to taste to failure in your enterprise, it is very likely that you aren’t aiming as high as you should. There is nothing shameful or embarrassing about failures; they are a lesson, an opportunity for us to fine-tune our approach and do things differently. They are not an indication of our inability, but rather a chance for us to show everyone our fortitude. A person who keeps believing in and working toward his goals commands more respect than someone who lost that spark after a couple of disappointments.

Ultimately, a successful person is one who could pull himself back up once more than he fell. You could have failed ninety-nine times and bounced back on every occasion, but it all counts for very little in the end if you fail to get back up the hundredth time. And that is why it is important to never give up on our dreams. Of course, this doesn’t mean not learning from our failures and making the same mistakes over and over. In this day and age, course correction is arguably as important as a determined mindset. That said, regardless of the tweak in our approach, one needs to be dogged in the pursuit of their dreams.

Ancient China was the source of many a nugget of wisdom. Stressing the need for perseverance, one such quote goes as follows: “If you get up one more time than you fall, you will make it through.” It is noteworthy that this quote is also attributed to the Anglo-Irish novelist, playwright and poet, Oliver Goldsmith.
