Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.
Bruce Lee
Life is no bed of roses; it is more like a thorny path that we are usually forced to navigate barefoot. And yet, it is these hardships that make both life and success worthwhile.
Don’t get us wrong – we aren’t asking anyone to actually pray for a troublesome life. The truth is that one doesn’t have to pray for it. Life, as mentioned above, is all about one challenge followed by another. You don’t ask for problems; they simply are part and parcel of our lives. What the above quote rather means is an ability to keep your composure and be resolute enough to triumph over whatever life throws at you. Why would one wish for a lighter load in vain when they can get stronger shoulders instead? What is the point of hoping we get tasks that are equal to our abilities, when it should be the other way round?
The key here is to avoid getting complacent in our lives, to stop taking our blessings for granted. The more rooted we become in our comfort zones, the harder it gets for us to adapt when our circumstances force us out of them. On the other hand, once we start living in the present, with no expectations for the future and no judgments about how our life is, serenity and success begin to flow in. And once that happens, we are no longer afraid of the roadblocks we may encounter along the way. We simply deal with them as they come.
As a name, Bruce Lee needs no introduction. The famed martial artist, actor, director and screenwriter was renowned for his superhuman perseverance. Lee once remarked: “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”
