Do not begin today with broken pieces of yesterday.

Disappointments and setbacks are part and parcel of life. They may even be regarded as important milestones in our lives, for they teach us to keep our feet grounded, avoid committing the same mistakes, or simply keep an eye out for complacency.
However, more often than not, such mishaps end up becoming a lot more than the lessons they were supposed to be; they transform into a baggage that keeps bogging us down. They weigh on our heart and force us to reconsider every decision we take, making our mind the perfect breeding ground for our biggest enemy – self-doubt. When we begin to question every step we take en route to our goals, the journey becomes a lot bumpier than it was supposed to be. An unsure mindset leads us into obstacles that we could easily have avoided with a more positive approach, and we keep getting further away from where we wanted to be.
One of the easiest ways to avoid our past failures – whether it was a thwarted career plan or a relationship gone wrong – is to let bygones be bygones. You need to look at every day as a fresh start. Every morning you wake up and get out of bed is the first day of the rest of your life. With a clean slate and the experience of the lessons learned from our past mistakes, there is nothing that we cannot achieve. Each day is an uncharted territory and the possibilities are truly endless for a person who is living in the present, in stark contrast to someone who has one foot in the past.
The following quote from an anonymous author perfectly sums up the importance of embracing life as it comes: “Do not begin today with broken pieces of yesterday.”
